Món Orxata’s associated farmers. Your farmers.

Right from Món Orxata’s carts we encouraged in 2004 the ecological farmer Enric Navarro to grow our first ecological certified tiger nut in the world with the aim to show in Valencia’s Horta that it is possible to cultivate ecological tiger nut:

a) without infesting the fields with fertilisers or chemical phytosanitary products.

b) obtaining the same yield per hectare in harvested kilograms.

c) Improving tiger nut’s quality.

d) cutting back on production expenses so the consumers don’t have to pay extra costs for consuming Bio.

Also in 2004 we cultivated the first six ecological tiger nut hectares in Valencia’s Horta for the first time in at least fifty years. Oddly our great-great-grandfathers did not use fertilisers nor phytosanitary products until they were convinced in the fifties to do so in big quantities to get as much quantity and quality as needed.

The last years we have proved that it is possible and every year more and more farmers adopt the ecological tiger nut cultivation model.

To help them we have developed a "Fair Agricultural Trade" approach which let the farmers who adopt the ecological earn much more money than they normally do.

The only condition for the associated farmers is to put into practice the agronomic ecological model developed throughout our experience that makes possible to rotate the cultivation of the tiger nut and some other organic products with an easy sale in the market.
